Publishing started with the establishment of the Higher Medical Institute of Varna in 1961. It included the provision of textbooks in aid of the educational process, and in 1962—the publishing of the scientific journal Annual Scientific Works of the Higher Medical Institute of Varna (from 1966—Scripta Scientifica Medica).

In 1972, an offset printing base was created, which allowed the independent production and supported the increasing need for educational and scientific literature. A group of professionals was employed—a printer and two bookbinders. Since 2013, there has been a separate structural unit with a team of copyeditors, proofreaders, and specialists in the field of design, prepress, and print, as well as a base for digital and offset printing, three physical bookstores and an online one.
