On 9 May 2025, as we celebrate Europe Day – a day that honours peace, unity, and the shared values of our continent – Varna Medical University Press launches its educational initiative, officially registered as part of the European Public Health Week (EUPHW).
EUPHW is an annual event coordinated by the European Public Health Association (EUPHA) and co-funded by the European Union. In 2025, In 2025, the campaign will run from 12 to 16 May under the theme “Innovation for Resilience: Shaping a Sustainable Future“. Each day will focus on a key theme, including health resilience, global health challenges, prevention, mental health, and collaborative networks.
Health that Connects
The Medical University of Varna’s event has been registered under code HW3 on the official EUPHW platform. The university’s contribution focuses on the concept of “One Health” – a holistic approach that recognises the interconnection between human, animal, and environmental health. This activity takes the form of an online educational campaign in Bulgarian, which will be published on the website of Varna Medical University Press.
Five Days – Five Themes – Dozens of Scientific Highlights
Throughout the week, the campaign will showcase scientific publications, monographs, and books published by Varna Medical University Press, each thematically aligned with the daily focus set by EUPHW. The platform will serve as a dynamic space for disseminating up-to-date scientific knowledge to researchers, lecturers, students, and the broader community.
The EUPHW will start on Monday, 12 May, with both in-person and online events in Brussels. Each day will begin with a thematic webinar, hosted by leading partner organisations, which are open to all via registration and direct links.
Here are the daily topics, which will guide the campaign’s content for the academic and student communities in Bulgaria:
- 12 May – Mental Health: Health Workforce at the Centre
- 13 May – Global Health: Food Systems, Health Security, Climate and Sustainability
- 14 May – Healthy Ageing vs. Multimorbidities in a Digital World
- 15 May – Health Equity and Social Determinants of Health
- 16 May – Next Generation: Public Health of Today and Tomorrow, Led by EUPHAnxt and Partners
International Recognition for the Bulgarian Public Health Association
MU–Varna’s participation is part of the broader activities of the Bulgarian Public Health Association (BgPHA), which received an award from EUPHA in 2024 for being the most active association during last year’s EUPHW. The award was presented at the closing ceremony of the 17th European Public Health Conference in Lisbon. This international recognition highlights the dedication of many active members of the BgPHA, including representatives from Varna. Their contribution continues this year, driven by commitment, enthusiasm, and a clear vision for the future.
